Wales against the Republic of Ireland fans, played at Grange Albion FC in Grangetown, saw Wales produce one of their worst performances for a long time in total contrast to Ryan Giggs' side later that evening. A disappointing first half saw Wales 3-0 down at the break and although they put in a spirited second half display the lack of fire power in the side was evident as goal scoring opportunities were few and far between.
Rhys Wallbank was busy in the Welsh goal, but could do nothing to keep the Irish out, despite several fine saves, while Wales failed to find a spark in the last third with wingers Nathan Davies and Ryan Davies unable to break down the Irish back four and the midfield of Simon Thomas and Ryan March overrun in the middle of the park. Defenders Tim Hartley, Rhys Hartley, Wayne Anderson and Evan Williams, looked like this was their first game together which it was, while Andrew Dowling and Ashton Adams worked hard, but had no rewards for their efforts.
The following players represented Wales....
Rhys Wallbank, Andrew Dowling, Ashton Adams, Evan Williams, Wayne Anderson, Ryan March, Ryan Davies,
Laurence Mora, Nathan Davies, Rhys Hartley, Tim Hartley and Simon Thomas.
Manager Neil Dymock commented after the game "It was our most disappointing display over the last five years. We had beaten the same Ireland side comprehensively on the last two occasions, but we missed a bit of quality up front today and were short of options on the bench. We showed some character in the second half, but the game was over as a contest then."
